Catania is a lively port city on Sicily's east coast, at the foot of beautiful Mt. Etna. Be sure to set your clocks—in Sicily (and throughout Italy) you’re on Central European Time (CET), which is +9 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, and +2 hours ahead of GMT / UTC.

Trip Start

We will meet at 9am on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Il Principe Hotel in Catania, Sicily. After a market tour and lunch in Catania, we will depart for Siracusa.

Arrival Airport

The best airport to fly into is Catania Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), about a 15-minute drive from our meeting spot. Direct flights service CTA from across Europe's major hubs.

We recommend arriving at least one full day prior to the start of your trip in the case of unforeseen circumstances or travel delays. For information on where to stay the night before, see the following Pre-Arrival Accommodations section.

Transfer from Airport

We recommend booking a taxi through our meeting place (Il Principe Hotel ) no more than 30 days ahead of your arrival. Contact Il Principe Hotel directly at info@ilprincipehotel.com to arrange.

Alternatively, you can organize your own taxi upon arrival at CTA airport. Taxis are easy to find: Once you clear security and collect your bags, just head to the arrivals hall at the main level of the terminal. Typically, transport to the city center costs a flat rate of €25-28. For more information, visit the CTA airport website.

Pre-Arrival Accommodations

We stay in a variety of hotels on this trip—rooms go fast and daily rates change frequently. If you plan to arrive in Catania prior to the beginning of our journey, we recommend staying at ll Principe Hotel (tel. +39 095 250 0345, info@ilprincipehotel.com). Please contact the hotel directly to book.

We end our trip—after a week of exploration, connection, and delicious food and drink!—on Sunday, July 17, 2022 in Naples at the Hotel Costantinopoli 104.

Departure Airport

We recommend booking your outbound flights from Naples International Airport (NAP) in Naples. This is a different airport from the one we begin at, so make sure to book your outbound flights accordingly.

Transfer to Airport

After breakfast on our last day, Modern Adventure will provide a complimentary transfer to Naples’ NAP airport. If you would like to join this transfer, your flight home should depart from NAP at 12pm or later.

Please note: If you book a flight that leaves earlier than 12pm, or if you are planning on extending your time in Naples, it is your responsibility to arrange alternative transportation from Hotel Costantinopoli 104 to the airport.

Post-Trip Accommodations

We hope you have the opportunity to extend your stay in Italy. If you would like to extend your stay at our last hotel, Hotel Costantinopoli 104 (see Accommodations), contact them directly and let them know you are with Modern Adventure, and would like to extend your stay. We will do everything in our power to avoid unnecessary room changes, allowing you to stay in the same room from start to finish—however, please note that this is not always an option and rooms are subject to change. Guests who purchase extended stays directly through the hotels are typically not eligible for any special group rates.
